In einem spannenden Interview, das unter anderem den DVD-Start von „OPEN THE DOOR“ am 06. September 2018 (Tiberius Film GmbH) beleuchtet, hatten wir die Gelegenheit, mit dem talentierten Regisseur Patricio Valladares zu sprechen.
Patricio Valladares ist nichts weniger als die chilenische Antwort auf den bekannten Horrormeister Eli Roth und hat sich in den Kreisen des Horrorgenres einen ganz besonderen Platz erobert. Seine einzigartigen Erzähltechniken und sein Gespür für das Grauen haben ihm einen Ruf als echter Geheimtipp eingebracht, der längst über die Grenzen seines Heimatlandes hinausstrahlt. Wir sind begeistert, euch diesen außergewöhnlichen Regisseur vorzustellen, und haben ihm einige Fragen gestellt, um mehr über seine kreativen Visionen und die Entstehung seines neuesten Films zu erfahren.

OBZ: Gerade ist in Deutschland „OPEN THE DOOR“ (Nightworld) veröffentlicht worden. Viele Ihrer Filme sind sehr brutal und werden meistens geschnitten veröffentlicht. Bei „OPEN THE DOOR“ wirkt vieles ungewohnt, dafür überzeugt dieser vor allem durch eine packende Atmosphäre. Wollten Sie mal einen Schritt zurück treten, was die Härte betrifft?
VALLADARES: Yes, of course, was a era, very younger. Now i will try find a new way to shooting and creative movies. Now I am a dad, so the parenthood made me take a diferent vision from how made new proyects. For example now mi back to comicbook industry, next year will be publishing in italy my new comic.
OBZ: Worum geht es in den Film?
VALLADARES: When Former LAPD Office, Brett Anderson takes a job as head of security at an old apartment building in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, he soon begins to experience a series of bizarre and terrifying events. Once he begins to delve deep into the building’s sinister history, and investigate its shadowy owners and past employees, Brett soon uncovers a malevolent force nestled deep in the bowels of the building in basement that will do anything to be set free into our world…
OBZ: Eine echte Legende spielt mit. Wie ist die Zusammenarbeit mit Robert Englund entstanden?
VALLADARES: YEAH, Robert is legend in the horror fans!, when Loris told me about Rober Englund will be in the cast, was like blow my brains out, so happy and so excited, before ive worked with Michael Biehn and William Forsythe, and now with Him, so cool in my career like filmmaker. With Mr Englund we talking all days about movies, i remember he and me we talk a lot times about how fantastic was the movie Green Room.
Robert was on set genial. he is the most adorable actor that ive worked, so cute with all crew and cast, always so talent in all scenes, He always knows his job very well, i meant, come on him have many many movies in his career like actor and he was a director too. Robert also proposed ideas to his performance and of course, for the good of the flick!
OBZ: Auch Jason London (Carrie 2, My Teachers Wife, To Wong Foo) ist neben seinen Zwillingsbruder Jeremy London ein bekannter Schauspieler. Wie kam es hier zu der Zusammenarbeit?
VALLADARES: Natalie burn, is a very good friend, with her, works togeter in 2 movies. Downhilla and Ghost of Garip at turkey. So we looking for a male lead role for nightworld and she told us so good things about Jason, So was so true, a very talent guy and low perfil, and with a so nice humor! Was perfect!
OBZ: Ihre zwei bekanntesten Filme sind „Hidden in the Woods“ und „Wrong Trail“. Wie sehr unterscheiden sich die Filme mit „OPEN THE DOOR“?
VALLADARES: Hidden in the woods is so violent and rough cinematography, wrong trail is for free and experimental horror movie for me, was shoot for send to film festival. I really love this film and made a lot good experiences. Now Open the door is 100% different, a very mainstream horror movie. All shoot like a clasic movie and more madure and no violente. With a lot athmosferic. The american critic from Los Angeles time told about I like director: Atmospheric thriller ‚Night World‘ director Patricio Valladares gives the film a rich, shadowy look !!
OBZ: Am 03. November 2018 findet in Dortmund / Deutschland die „Weekend of Hell“ statt. Zusammen mit den deutschen YouTube-Star DeeMon werden wir dort den Film „Open the Door“ auf DVD und Blu-ray verlosen. Robert Englund ist auch anwesend. Kann man Sie auf solchen Messen ebenfalls antreffen? Darüber kann mit Fans in Kontakt treten. Ist Ihnen das wichtig als Filmemacher? Interessieren Sie sich auch für die Meinungen der anderen?
VALLADARES: Im very really love this ferias, very great see horror movies fans, I want to going next year maybe.
OBZ: Internationale Schauspieler und auch internationale Drehorte sind in Ihren Filmen zu sehen. Wäre Deutschland auch eine interessante Option für Sie?
VALLADARES: I´m so fan from the german cinema, and i can remember the germand undergound horror like Necromantic, Premutos, Zombie 90, a lot gore movies, was very fun, i have a lot vhs german horror movies at home.
OBZ: Können Sie uns schon etwas über Ihre neuen Projekte verraten?
VALLADARES: last summer ive shoot the pilot from miniserie called EMBRYO, is a sci fy horror movie. About Kevin and his girlfriend Evelyn, who, while camping out in the woods in the Chile countryside is abducted and impregnated by otherworldly beings. As the entity inside her begins to grow at a rapid rate, Evelyn discovers that the cravings she’s experiencing can only be satiated by the taste of human flesh and blood. When she attacks a doctor, Kevin decides not to hand her over to the authorities, but to go on the run and try to get to mainland big city where they can find help to remove the thing that’s slowly taking over evelyn’s body.
“Embryo” was co-created and written by Barry Keating (Downhill, Rift) and Patricio Valladares. The pilot series was produced by Francisco Inostroza, Loris Curci (Producer of Nightworld). And is produced by Chilean-based Suspenso and Chilean Government. Corfo.
